Ribbon grass (Phalaris arundinacea) is a fast-growing, perennial grass with striped leaves. It's native to Europe, Asia, and North America. 

Appearance 

  • Long, narrow, arching leaves that are green with white or cream stripes

  • Tan flower spikes in the summer

  • Small, black seeds

Uses 

Ground cover, Borders, Containers, Cut flowers, Waterside, Bog gardens, Ponds and streams, and Rain gardens.

Growing conditions 

  • Thrives in moist soil

  • Performs best in full sun to part shade

  • Drought tolerant

  • Can grow in dry to wet, well-drained soils
