Juniper Tree

Juniper trees are evergreen conifers that can be shrubs or small to tall trees. They have needle-like or scale-like leaves and berry-like cones. 

Appearance

• Leaves: Juniper trees have needle-like or scale-like leaves that can be green, blue, or gold 

• Cones: Female juniper cones are berry-like and blue, while male cones are yellow or tan 

• Bark: Juniper bark is grey-brown and peels with age 

• Twigs: Juniper twigs are reddish brown 

Size and shape

• Juniper trees can range in size from small shrubs to tall trees 

• Juniper trees can be columnar or low-spreading with long, trailing branches 

Habitat 

• Juniper trees grow in dry open woods, gravely areas, stone outcrops, and alpine mountain areas
